This shot nearly cost me my camera! Forgetting my tripod is a common occurrence for interstate trips, and so I had to set my camera up on my camera bag to get this picture. Timing was important, as the sun wouldn't stay up for long. The Hawaiian tides swept over my camera and camera bag, thankfully neither suffered too much damage.

Shots close to the ground at beaches always worry me a little bit, given how close tidal waves can come to crashing down on my equipment. Still, I can't resist the angle that beach life must see at their level. This photo was taken off the Florida coast at the Gulf and boasts an active shot of seafoam hitting the beach.
18mm, 1/1600 sec., f/5.6, ISO 100
It's not often that one will find palm trees in Texas, so when I travelled to California, I knew I needed to get the right shot. This picture boasts the California sun peering through tall palm trees with a boardwalk in the background. The black and white look of this picture gives it a vintage feel.

Creeks make for beautiful photography opportunities, particularly after a heavy rain. At this creek, there was not much greenery, as the photo was taken during the winter season. Finding greenery like the moss at this quiet creek was a jewel. This photo involved laying down and getting a worm's-eye shot. Shells, pebbles, and twigs are seen in the foreground, with the desolation of winter visible in the background.

This photo was taken off the Gulf coast in Florida. I had just taken the camera out of my camera bag, the contrast between the cool hotel room the equipment came from and the humid weather it was put into created fog on the lens of the camera. I decided to roll with the punches and captured some photos that I thought had a very pleasant and nostalgic feeling to them.
14mm, 1/1250 sec., f5, ISO 100
Taken off the gulf coast of Florida, this photo exhibits the tumultuous tides as the evening comes to a close. This shot required a tripod to capture the shifting waves as "blue hour" arrived. Blue hour is the hour right after sunset, and gives a beautiful blue tinge to photos. Margaritas shortly followed this shot.

The unique style of this photo is due to the natural photography conditions when the photo was taken, as well as post-processing editing. This beautiful mountain range accentuates the views from the peak of Mount Roberts in Juneau, Alaska in the far distance. Greetings from Juneau, AK!

Downtown Fort Worth is a popular place to visit, especially on the weekends. This shot was taken on one such weekend, with cars zooming by and the Texan sun setting for the evening. This photo boasts the Tarrant County Courthouse (where I've worked), as well as a Tarrant County College building and a Criminal Justice building in the background. This shot was taken on a tripod given the low shutter speed required to capture this image.
18mm, 1.3 sec., f/22, ISO 800
Bonfires are a classic part of the University of North Texas' homecoming activities. Lots of time and effort are put into making the event a fun experience both students and alum alike. Due to COVID-19, I didn't get many opportunities to enjoy the bonfire while I was in school. This photo was from one of those years I was able to attend, and it was magnificent! It quickly becomes the largest light source at the event and warms up the crowd on a chilly fall evening.
50mm, 1/2500 sec., f/1.4, ISO 100
When mountain hiking in Juneau, Alaska, it's hard to not find great views. This shot peers through the dense rainforests in Juneau to see the formidable mountain standing beyond the trees. There is a running river streaming down the front of the mountain, creating the pleasant sound of clean rushing water. Beware, bears can be found in the area!
10mm, 1/800 sec., f/10, ISO 400
This was an early shot of mine taken in California while on a boat. While the hill is small, I appreciated the prominence it seemed to hold over the horizon it sat on. As Ansel Adams was an early influence of mine, I wanted to get a shot in his style. While I still had (and have) much to learn about photography, I am proud of the mood I captured in this photo, from the choppy waves to the still and foreboding subject in the shot.

This picture of the mysterious mountains on Oahu Island in Hawaii boasts vibrant greens amidst low-hanging clouds. The weather conditions for this shot were incredibly windy, making any kind of photography difficult. A single roadway can be found cutting through the dense foliage.
50mm, 1/160 sec., f/9, ISO 100
Taken off the coast of Florida at the Gulf, this photo brilliantly captures the incredible sunset falling on a soft beach. In the foreground, rushing waves crash against the beach. There's not much better a way to end a day on vacation than this. This photo was taken on a tripod in the water using low shutter speed settings to capture the motion blur of the gulf water.
50mm, 1/10 sec., f/22, ISO 100
The creek near my childhood home provided many opportunities for beautiful pictures. In this photo, the branches almost form a crown around the sun peering through the trees. Seeing the sun through the trees always brightened my mood, and this photo is how I would see that from my perspective. I exercised caution when taking this photo, as direct sunlight can damage photographic equipment and my eyes.

This photo was taken off the Florida Gulf coast. The day was nearing an end and we were in "Blue Hour", meaning the time after sunset. This was a perfect opportunity to play with some motion-blur photography. This photo captured the tumultuous waves from that trip in a graceful and powerful manner. On the horizon, nothing for miles and miles.
50mm, 1/3 sec., f/1.8, ISO 100
In the world of photography, and the world around you, the good things aren't always straight ahead. Sometimes you have to look around. When taking this shot, I loved the way the branches seemed to intertwine and form a maze. This bright summer's day was perfect for laying down in the grass and feeling the sunlight through the trees.

When it snows in Texas, everything seems to come to a halt (except for, of course, my photography). One particularly snowy day, I decided to trudge out to the creek near my childhood home to see what I could find. Sometimes, the best photos are the simplest. I found this lone tree fighting for its survival in the bluster of the winter season. This photo captures not only the details of the frozen branches, but the snowflakes falling around it.
50mm, 1/1600 sec., f/1.8, ISO 100
If you look closely, you can see a boat cutting through the waves in the distance, where the sunset's final rays touch the water. Not long after this picture was taken, the sun fell below the horizon's cloud cover and the day ended. This photo was taken on a boat, with a high f-stop, which allowed the camera to catch the beautiful sunrays that can be seen in this photo.
18mm, 1/500 sec., f/29, ISO 100
Juneau, Alaska is known for its small size and big impact. As the capitol of the biggest state in the United States, it plays an important role state-wide. However, it has a quite small footprint. This photo shows the sheer comparison between some of the buildings in Juneau and the massive mountain range which surrounds it. The peak of the mountain in the background rises above cloud cover, and the ice cap seems to almost merge with the icy clouds which encompass it.
85mm, 1/1000 sec., f/2.8, ISO 100
This picture features a stunning view of the Californian sun with a boardwalk in the foreground. Don't mind the folks walking in the picture, they're enjoying the sunset as much as you are! This is an early photograph in my career, and for my photography friends, this did not have a lens filter for the sun-rays.

Texas has incredible sunsets, point blank period. This shot frames the sun with wild Texas foliage as it dips below the horizon behind a still lake. The warm summer weather and the sunset was perfect for fishing, kayaking, and all the other great Texan activities one can enjoy at the lake.
125mm, 1/400 sec., f/7.1, ISO 100
This picture depicts a monastery deep in the heart of Hawaii's O'ahu island. This place represents the cultural history and modern practices of native populations to Hawaii. The surrounding area was stunning, with wildlife and native plants spread throughout the property.

No, I did not have an atmospheric drone for this shot. I took this from a plane while flying over the western United States. This mountain range was too beautiful to pass up a good photo. You can see parts of a city nearby on the bottom right.

This photo is aptly named, as it's the location of a Luau in Oahu, Hawaii. As the sun was setting, I knew that I needed to get this dreamy shot of the crystal-clear waters and the soft sands of the beach. This photo was promptly followed by a fantastic dinner! As I had forgotten my tripod for this trip, this shot was taken hand-held.
10mm, 1/13 sec., f/22, ISO 100
Moon pictures can be difficult without the right lens. An early photograph in my career, I knew that the moon isn't always the star of the show. I focused on the natural flora in the area to accentuate this shot of the moon. The darkness in this photo gives it a moody disposition, which was appropriate for the conditions in which the photo was shot.
